The Copper Beech hedges, with its vibrant, purple-bronze leaves, is a dramatic natural spectacle that lends a distinctive touch to any landscape. Its luxurious hue creates a stunning contrast with the typical green foliage found in most gardens, making it an outstanding choice for those looking to make a bold, aesthetically pleasing statement.

The Copper Beech, or Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’, is a deciduous tree that grows exceptionally well in well-drained soil and moderate sunlight. Even though it can reach towering heights when left to grow, it’s typically pruned to form robust hedges. These hedges not only provide a boundary, privacy, and sound barrier but also a spectacular visual feast throughout the year.

In spring, the Copper Beech hedge unveils fresh, glossy leaves that emerge with a burst of bright red, gradually transitioning into the iconic coppery-purple as the season progresses. In autumn, it flaunts a rich tapestry of russet and gold before shedding its leaves, revealing a striking silhouette in the winter landscape.

A Copper beech hedge is hardy

One of the key advantages of a Copper Beech hedge is its hardiness. It thrives in most soil conditions, making it a suitable choice for various landscapes. It also stands up remarkably well to wind, making it a resilient choice for exposed sites.

Despite the Copper Beech’s preference for sun, it also tolerates shade remarkably well, adding flexibility to its positioning in a garden. Its dense nature also allows it to serve as a habitat for a variety of wildlife, thus promoting biodiversity.

These hedges are undoubtedly majestic, offering year-round interest in terms of color and form. Their maintenance may require a bit of effort, especially when it comes to shaping and pruning, but the end result is a magnificent display that enlivens any setting with its unique charm.
